Nichts als leerer Raum und atomare Materie? Epikureische Kosmologien in der frühen Aufklärung
I am researching texts from the 17th century about the nature of matter that challenged the predominant Cartesian worldview with Epicurean and particularly Lucretian theories. Currently I am focusing on the French philosopher Pierre Gassendi, especially his arguments on the motion of atoms ("Atomistic Dynamism") and how they connect to each other to form matter. I will further look into how his discussions about atomic theory influenced discourses on the existence of the vacuum, on the force of attraction between atoms, on gravitation and on the movement of heavenly bodies.
