Workshop on New Approaches to the Research of Rural Sanctuaries in the Roman Republic
Workshop held by Tesse Stek (Groningen)
This workshop aims to discuss new approaches to the study of the Roman landscape with a particular focus on the study of rural sanctuaries.
Tesse Stek has a long experience in the use of innovative methods for landscape archaeology. His projects on rural sanctuaries in Central Italy and Portugal produced fundamental publications for the research of Mediterranean religious landscapes and landscape archaeology in general. For example, highly interesting is the work on non-invasive approaches through GIS software that he applied for the study of rural landscape in Central Italy (Molise).
The workshop is addressed mainly to PhD students in classical archaeology as well as those who work on landscape archaeology in general.
We would like to have an active participation to exchange ideas and learn from each other and Stek’s expertise. Therefore, the participants must prepare three readings on the topic that will be send via email.
