"Numbers in Numismatics – Definitions, Experiments, Evaluation, Presentation"

29.05.2024 | 13:00 - 14:30

Vortrag von Jean Hourmouziadis (Berlin)

Abstract:

The necessity of dealing with numerical data in numismatics has significantly increased over the past twenty years. The introduction of modern measurement techniques and computers has generated large volumes of such data, requiring a well-founded understanding of the quality and evaluation of this information.
In the webinar, the numbers, their digits, and their validity for daily work will be discussed. Statistics will be covered, along with their shortcomings and potential. The principles, hardware and data characteristics of modern experimental techniques, such as electrical conductivity measurent and XRF analysis, will be explained. Finally, the biological and mathematical backgrounds of artificial intelligence will be discussed, as well as its shortcomings and its very promising potential for use in numismatic research.
