International – interinstitutional – interdisciplinary: The Research Center of Ancient Studies
The Research Center of Ancient Studies (RCAS) manages the international research activity of the Berliner Antike-Kolleg (BAK) across institutions and disciplines.
The Test Topics, the Fellowship Program and the BAK Debates are key formats in the RCAS’s work. The Test Topics are pilot projects in which researchers explore ideas that have been identified as innovative, develop them into concrete research questions and test their viability for larger-scale projects. The BAK Debates, a series of discussions on selected topics, are one way that the Center encourages and facilitates dynamic exchange across institutions.
The RCAS also holds conferences, symposia and workshops that actively promote scholarly exchange, strengthening Berlin’s position as one of the world’s leading centers for ancient studies.
From 2015 to 2018, the Einstein Stiftung Berlin funded many of the center’s activities.
