On the 24th March, PhD and MA students of Ancient Studies and neighbouring fields will have the opportunity to listen to first-hand experience reports about various career options on the BerGSAS Career Day at the FU.
For many MA students and, naturally, for PhD candidates, the doctorate is the final goal of their educational path. As an experience and a qualification, a PhD opens doors in a variety of directions for the modelling of one’s professional life later on. Be it a professor’s chair as the next higher level, be it finding work in the scientific community outside academia, be it a radical change in the career plan – the possibilities and lived realities of Ancient Scientists with a PhD are manifold, often hard to predict and certainly more diverse than many might think at first sight. On the 24th March, PhD and MA students of Ancient Studies and neighbouring fields will have the opportunity to listen to first-hand experience reports about various career options on the BerGSAS Career Day at the FU. Scientists with a PhD degree from numerous academic and non-academic areas of work will be giving insights into their individual professional career paths and their daily work.
During the event there will be short presentations by the speakers for the participants as well as opportunities for direct exchange. Some speakers have chosen the classic academic line of work or are employed in the academic sector more generally. However, students will also be able to inform themselves about career options with a PhD in Ancient Studies that they maybe haven’t even thought of before. For example, speakers from the fields of Data Management, Public Relations or natural sciences research will be present just as well as academic teachers, museum employees or editors for scientific publications. Furthermore, concrete counselling services at the universities beyond the Career Day will be presented at the event. BerGSAS is looking forward to many participants, interesting talks and a lively exchange of tips, ideas and concepts for the working future in Ancient Studies!
