Urban Spaces: Formation & Transformation in Ancient Sicily and Southern Italy
Workshop
The aim of the conference "Urban Spaces: Formation & Transformation in Ancient Sicily and Southern Italy" is to create a forum for the exchange of research and ideas between young international researchers. PhD students, post-docs and researchers from Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland will have the opportunity to present their research directly related to Ancient Sicily and/or Ancient Southern Italy in a 30-minute talk. Geographically, the spectrum ranges from Monte Iato in the north-west of Sicily to Salento in the very east of the mainland. Chronologically, in turn, it goes from indigenous settlements of archaic times to the earliest founding periods of Greek settlements, and to ports and bathing facilities of the Roman imperial period.
This conference is a continuation of the annual meetings of young researchers that have been taking place since 2020 with the focus on "Ancient Sicily".
The two days conference in Berlin is supported by the Berliner Antike-Kolleg (BAK) and is organized within the Berlin Graduate School Ancient Studies (BerGSAS).
